Good, but could be thicker (2007-01-04)
Took a long time to come and there aren’t as many recipies as I’d hoped. For a magazine that comes out every coupld of months, you’d think it would be thick with lots of recipies and articles. I was somewhat disapointed.WHAT A JOKE (2006-08-01)
Ordered this freaking magazine back in MARCH 2006 and still have nothing. The number of publications per year have been cut by 33%, the recipes (which Tish Boyle the editor stated quite some time ago) were supposed to be increased, as was the volume of the magazine (all because they were cutting back on the number of publications per year). Can you say LIAR LIAR and RIP OFF??? The recipes have dwindled down to nothing, which now is EQUAL to their customer service. For a more accurate reflection of how many stars these clowns deserve, white my star out.Worth it (2006-07-12)
I do agree that the rate of circulation is a bit sketchy, but I found that when I contacted the magazine directly (instead of working through amazon.com), I got results more quickly. Given that I purchase the magazine for its recipes, photos and articles, I don’t see a real problem in waiting. (It’s not like a recipe can be out of date.) The desserts are foolproof, easy and always delicious and inventive. I even find myself returning to old issues for recipes I’ve done before, they’re just that good. I have been completely satisfied with the copies I’ve received of both Chocolatier and Pastry Art and Design, and will continue my subscriptions. For those who are frustrated, I suggest subscribing directly through the magazine rather than through amazon.Awful (0 STARS) - DO NOT SUSCRIBE - IT IS A CON! (2006-05-19)
Took a two year subscription out in January 06. 5 months later I have nothing to show for it - complained several times - appalled that they are allowed to get a way with this. Looking at taking legal advice and contacting consumer services and advertising standards because they are all CHEATS!In Total Agreement with the Other Reviews (2006-05-16)
I subscribed to Chocolatier many years ago, then stopped. Four or five years ago, I started again, but it took many months before the subscription started. Then there’s the fact that they never committed to a regular publishing schedule. One year it would be January, then March, then July, October, November, and December, while the next year the months might be totally different. Then there was the year they published the exact same issue twice, one with one month (let’s say September), the second with October on it. I was trying to fill in some back issues from eBay auctions, and wound up buying the same one twice, because one auction was selling an issue with one date, the other with the other.
Toward the end of my last subscription, about two years ago, I started to get more and more frustrated with the smaller issues, fewer recipes, and the fact that the majority of the pages were “ads”–not real ads, but ones promoting this and that “new” item. Then they started saying that instead of six issues a year, there would only be four “larger” seasonal issues. They said this for about a year, but all the issues that arrived during that period were still labeled by months, not quarters. The renewal form sat on my desk for months, and I really thought about renewing, because I was sure that the larger issues would be worth it, but looking at these recent reviews makes me glad I finally decided against renewing.
I have never ever seen a magazine with as poor a record of service as Chocolatier; I wish I could give 0 stars!
