GREAT Magazine (2008-04-05)
I LOVE Cooks Country. An unusual and really useful as well as a very attractive and interesting magazine. I have even given it as gifts,
The price was much better than through the inserts in the magazine itself, too.Buy Cook’s Illustrated instead (2007-10-09)
I have been a subscribe to CI for many years and are familiar with their database of recipes back to 1993. It is an OUTSTANDING magazine and the finest on the market today, IMO. Then comes Cook’s Country. Of course, I gave it a try wondering where the clever people at CI were going next but I think they’ve lost something of what made them great in this Cook’s Country magazine. Over the years in CI, there have been lots of articles taking “homey” food and testing to improve (macaroni and cheese, turkey tetrazinni, scrambled eggs, ground beef tacos). In addition, they took lots of recipes one might consider inaccessible to the home cook and created fool proof formulas. I just don’t understand what CC adds. CI is more than just recipes, it’s like an every other month culinary class. I worry that CC is diluting their energies. I will not subscribe again. Get Cook’s Illustrated instead. Finally, no more ads! (2006-08-18)
I get this magazine and I love it. The recipies are simple to follow and taste great! I really like that there are absolutely no advertisements in this magazine just great recipes and tips.
I would recommend this to anyone that wants a simple cooking magazine.
for gourmet fans of Taste of Home (2006-04-25)
This magazine is a hybrid of its parent, Cook’s Illustrated, and the unrelated Taste of Home magazine. Like Taste of Home, it offers recipes for real food I’ll actually cook; it contains full-color photos; and it is ad-free. Like Cook’s Illustrated, its recipes have been tested (and not by Aunt Edna down the street); it’s ad-free; and it reviews kitchen gadgets (and its reviews can be trusted because the magazine is ad-free). I’m a huge fan. This is my dream magazine.I too, like the LARGE size (2006-03-10)
I’m not really a very good cook, however, this magazine grabbed my attention, just by the size alone! Not to mention it’s the sister publication of Cook’s Illustrated. The recipes are simple to follow, easy to fix, even if you’re not a gourmet chef. (& believe me, I’m not!) What I like about the large size is it’s easier for me to read, plus the whole recipe fits on one or two pages. It’s nice to be able to put the open magazine on the kitchen counter, & not have to use all kinds of weights to keep it open, while preparing a scrumptous meal.
The other thing that is nice about it, is that it’s published 6 times a year, but on different months than Cook’s Illustrated. That way, if you subscribe to both, you will have a new magazine every month of the year!
Cook’s Country debuted, I believe the beginning of 2005, so I hope it will be around for a long, long time.
